Lingua Latina Ab Initio

The Malta Classics Association (MCA) is once again organising the Lingua Latina Ab Initio (LLAI) series of exam-track courses in Latin. These courses are intended to equip students with familiarity with Latin grammar and syntax structures and to therefore allow them to make greater independent use of the wealth of medieval and early modern documents throughout our archives as well as Classical Latin sources more generally.

Each of the below courses will follow up on the other. While it is not necessary for applicants to sign up for all courses at once, students wishing to join courses at a later stage would need to test-in by passing a mini-exam to check language knowledge and competence. In addition to the core lesson hours below, students will have the option of sitting for a two-hour test at the end of each course. This test will not have any bearing on certification, which will be issued on the basis of participation to all students attending 6 or more lessons of each individual course. Please note that the ELEX Vestibulum following the third course can only be sat for in person.

The first course, Lingua Latina Ab Initio 1 will be running on Mondays and starting on 21 October 2024. Two courses will be running concurrently on Mondays and Wednesdays between 6:00pm and 8:00pm. Spaces are limited and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Both sessions will be held exclusively online.

Prospective students may register also as MCA members when applying for the course to benefit from MCA member discounts.
